Welcome to the Beals Elementary School!
Our school is located on a scenic island in Downeast Maine. This is the home of a large lobster-fishing fleet where you can watch fishermen hauling their traps and delivering the day's catch at waterside markets. Our community offers spectacular views of the mainland
.

The Jonesport Masonic Lodge #188 is sponsoring "Bike for Books" again this year. Children in Grades K-6 can read books to win a new bike and helmet. The deadline for book slips to be returned is Friday, May 16th. The winners of the bikes will be drawn on Saturday, May 17th.
MEA READING AND MATH TESTING AND SCIENCE TESTING IN MAY
As in years past, Maine will be administering Mathematics and Reading tests for students in grade 3 through 8. A State Science Assessment will be given in grades 5 and 8. The MEA (Maine Educational Assessment) testing window for students extends from April 22nd through May 31st. The Science Assessment window is May 13th to May 24th.
We encourage students to try their hardest and do their best, while recognizing that any assessment is an in-the-moment snapshot and not the final word on a child’s understanding or skill. Certainly a good night’s sleep and healthy breakfast will go a long way toward minimizing test anxiety and we appreciate your support in this regard.
Beals Elementary School will begin administering MEA tests beginning the week of April 29th. We ask that parents have their children to school on time and that they have a good nights rest on nights before testing days. The school does not usually receive the test results back from the state until the summer or fall.. Individual results will be shared with parents for their children in the fall. Please contact the school with any questions.

Our Core Beliefs and Values:

Student Assessment
The Beals School Department utilizes all assessment data to help inform our practices at the district, school, classroom and individual levels for our students.  Although we encourage students and parents to participate fully in our assessment program, it is important to note that parents/guardians may opt their child out of state testing.  If you are interested in doing so, please reach out to your child's principal to make this request in writing.
